The Ilsetal was named after the mountain river Ilse. The Ilse has a total length of 40 km and rises on the Brocken at an altitude of over 1000 meters. A hike through the Ilsetal along the Ilse is particularly beautiful. The hiking trail along the mountain river is the Heinrich-Heine-Weg, the most beautiful route to the Brocken.
