The romantic valley can be found in the Upper Harz Mountains, more precisely on the way from Ilsenburg to the Brocken. The Ilsetal bears the name of the river Ilse, which has its source on the Brocken. On its way to Ilsenburg, the wild little river overcomes a height difference of 120 meters over a section of about one kilometer. At these Ilse falls, the water forms small and larger cascades and crashes loudly over rocks. The shore invites you to linger and promises to cool off on hot days.

The Ilsetal is best explored on the Heinrich-Heine-Weg. The trail's famous namesake hiked along the falls in 1824. He made the natural spectacle world famous through one of his most famous works – the “Harz Journey”.

The Ilsetal is a wild and romantic mountain valley southwest of Ilsenburg. The Ilse has its source not far from the Brocken summit at an altitude of almost 1,000 meters and flows north through a bizarre rocky landscape.

The path along the small mountain river is one of the most scenic and varied hiking trails in the Harz Mountains. It bears the name of the well-known poet Heinrich Heine, who once walked along the Ilse from the Brocken to Ilsenburg.

A special attraction in the Ilsetal are the cascading Ilse Falls. In addition, numerous high cliffs such as the Paternosterklippe and the Ilsestein tower over the valley.

Some hikers make the mistake of walking the easy driveway. If you turn off at Zahthierplatz, you walk directly along the Ilse. Is much nicer.
