On the Eichberg near Mengelsdorf (Reichenbach/Upper Lusatia), there are abandoned quarries consisting of biotite granite and pegmatite. Quarries are found everywhere, some of them now forming lakes; at least one quarry is still active. In the small quarry on the Eichberg, rocks of the Lower Buntsandstein were mined, probably until the first half of the 20th century. Since the path leading downhill from the quarry toward Memleben is still recognizable, it is quite possible that this quarry primarily supplied the local residents with the necessary rock.

The lake is very overgrown, making swimming a bit of a deterrent. You can easily walk around the lake and then come to a kiosk selling delicious food and drinks.

The pond certainly has a "popular" name, but nothing can be found on the various maps. So let's just say it's the Petersbach pond, maybe with the addition of the Alte Landstrasse. There is a bench with a table by the pond, which invites you to take a rest and it is generally very quiet and therefore relaxing.
