The castle was built in 1724. It was named after its later owner, the Austrian Major General Baron von Kupperwolf, who acquired it after 1758 and remained its lord until the end of the century. It was destroyed by troops of the French Revolution in 1794 and subsequently rebuilt. Further renovations took place around 1888. An information panel providing a historical overview has since been installed at the castle. The Herxheim Castle was built in Herxheim in 1880, completely demolished in 1883-84 and rebuilt in Landau.

Fronte Beckers This well-preserved part of the fortress, over 250 meters long, impressively illustrates the historical fortification system with its moat defense (horseshoe), the main rampart, the posterns and underground mine galleries. CASTLE FESTIVAL IN EDESHEIM The unique ambience of Edesheim Castle with its open-air stage on the castle moat in the middle of vineyards was once again the dream setting for the best family entertainment this year. Launched in 1996, the Castle Festival enjoys greater popularity every year. The open-air theater located on the southwest corner of the castle with a view of the unique backdrop of Edesheim Castle is truly unparalleled. Up to ten events from all areas of art are presented each year on the open-air stage, located in the middle of the rebuilt castle moat (500 m² of water surface). Unfortunately, from 2023 onwards, due to the lack of approval from the Edesheim local council, the castle festival can no longer be held in a legally secure manner.
