During the cherry blossom season, the landscape of Rühler Schweiz between Golmbach and Rühle is a nationally renowned tourist destination: The mountain slopes are dotted with the brilliant white of blossoming cherry trees. Against the fresh blue of the spring sky, amateur and professional photographers find perfect postcard motifs. But it's worth taking a closer look: The charming landscape conceals a treasure. You'll find not just cherries here, but many different types of cherries. The variety of varieties in Rühler Schweiz is unique in Germany. Closer investigations have revealed almost 50 different varieties, including some cherry varieties thought to be lost. The two cherry discovery tours and the short "regional delight" quality trail lead on routes of varying lengths through the old cherry orchards and the unique cultural landscape near Golmbach. Here you will learn about the history of cherry cultivation in the region, the special characteristics of cherry fruit, the importance of bees for the entire ecosystem, and the wealth of animal and plant species that have found ideal living conditions in this cultural landscape.
