The town of Pautzfeld was first mentioned in documents in 1129 as "Butesfeld". At that time, the town belonged to the parish of St. Martin Forchheim. On September 2nd, 1370, Pautzfeld was elevated to an independent parish by the establishment of a mass benefice and was an independent parish until the Thirty Years' War (1618-1648). From then on, the parish was looked after from Seußling until 1751. The church was redesigned during this period.
