The fence has been replaced, but it's already damaged again and has been pushed down a bit. You can walk all the way around the ruins and see pretty much everything. You don't have to climb over the fence; it's fine without it 😉.

Very well designed and definitely worth a visit.

The path to the cave is now quite overgrown, and there are also fallen trees in the way. I visited the cave once before around 2010, when the path was more accessible. Definitely worth a detour for adventurous hikers.

It's amazing to place these mighty natural stones like this. I really like it. It's a beautiful place to linger and marvel.

Greifenstein Castle is a part of the municipality of Heiligenstadt i.OFr. in the Upper Franconian district of Bamberg in Bavaria.[1] The castle is located in Franconian Switzerland. The Counts of Stauffenberg have owned it since 1691. Greifenstein has six residents.

 The Tiefenpölz Stone Circle is not a prehistoric cult site, but was recently erected by a private individual as a homage to the world-famous Stonehenge in England. It was completed in 2024. The circle is somewhat smaller and made of dolomite, not bluestone like in England. The structure is located on a slight hill above the small Upper Franconian town of Tiefenpölz. It is somewhat smaller and not yet as historically significant, but it can be entered and viewed free of charge. Unfortunately, the first visitors have already begun to damage it with initials or other graffiti. This beautiful spot invites you to take a short break (a bench is available) and reflect. Also interesting is the fact that a Christian crucifix stands directly in front of the stone circle. Pagan symbols go well with Christian crosses. The stone circle is also a popular destination for photographers who want to capture the play of light and shadow in this special setting. Like its English counterpart, the stone circle is also aligned with the position of the sun at the summer and winter solstices. The work of art was created by the owner of a local road construction company, who collected and installed the special stones over the years. Stonehenge in Franconia is open 24 hours a day and is free to visit. The stone circle is particularly beautiful at sunrise or sunset, when the light illuminates the sandstone in warm colors and the site exudes an almost magical atmosphere.
