The "Pflasterbergle" is important as a biotope with spawning waters for amphibians. The biotope also has a viewing point, a beautiful bench with a view of the wetland biotope, and a fairly detailed information board.

Concentration camp prisoners were used to expand the Hailfingen airfield in the winter months of 1944/1945. 15 to 20 of them had to break stones every day in the August Schäfer & Söhne quarry and bring them with dump trucks to the gravel factory, which was in the immediate vicinity of the lake. Once, Israel Arbeiter, one of the prisoners, was unable to stop a fully loaded wagon due to his weakness, causing it to fall into the lake. He expected to be shot for “sabotage.” But he survived the murderous working conditions and, after his liberation, led the French to the mass grave in Hailfingen, where 75 of his comrades were buried. The prisoner Marion Kornblit managed to escape from Reusten with the help of the Stuttgart entrepreneur Wilhelm Beck.
