The most striking building in Berat

Beautiful city of 1,000 windows. If you hike up the hill on the opposite side of the river and visit the castle ruins, you'll have a great view of the old town of Berat.

The Mangalem quarter is located in the shape of a semicircle in the southern and eastern parts of the Castle Hill in Berat. This residential complex exhibits the characteristics of a medieval urban development outside the fortification walls. Its construction phase may have begun in the 15th and 16th centuries, while the residential structures visible today were largely built in the 18th and 19th centuries and incorporate a combination of stone and wood elements.

The Gorica Bridge is one of Berat's most notable landmarks due to its unique architecture. What makes the bridge so significant is its symbolic role as a bridge of peace and connection amidst historical conflicts between different religious groups.

Chapel beautifully lit at night. We did the tour in the evening in the dark, and apart from one small change to the tour, everything was well lit.

The Royal Mosque (Xhamia e Mbretit/Xhamia Mbret) is considered the oldest preserved mosque in the country. The mosque, built at the end of the 15th century, is located in the old town within the fortress walls. Since 1948 it has been one of Albania's cultural monuments. The exact origin of the mosque is not known. The Islamic art historian Machiel Kiel links the foundation of the mosque to the activities of Sinan Pasha Borovinic to rebuild Elbasan and suspects that the building dates from the late 15th century or perhaps the early 16th century.
