The Hilltop Trail near Takhini Hot Springs is a short hike that climbs through boreal forest to a scenic overlook where the trail ends. This trail is rewarding, well-marked, family-friendly, and a perfect spot for birdwatching, photography, or simply enjoying the beauty of the Yukon wilderness.

At the end of the Hilltop Trail is a view, clear from trees blocking it, of the surrounding Mayo Mountains, Montana Mountains, and Big Salmon and Long Lake ridges. This bald with a great view lies atop a grassy meadow.

Takhini Hot Springs, or Eclipse Nordic Hot Springs, has Natural Mineral Pools fed by underground hot springs that naturally emerge at around 47°C, with mineral-rich water, and no sulfur smell. It is a great place to soak after a hike, with discounted entry on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

There are also animals living in front of the fences 😄

The Spirit Canyon Trail leads to this overlook with some fantastic rock formations and rock walls. A cave-like formation will provide much needed shade on a hot day. The canyon is not just a great place to hike in, it is also popular along rock climbers. If you hike during the summer months, you will be treated by ripe berries like cranberry, currants and raspberry.

On your stroll through the Gunnar Nilsson and Mickey Lammers Research Forest, you will enjoy some nice views of the winding Takhini River. There is an even better viewpoint just a few feet from here. The Takhini River is a tributary of the mighty Yukon River. The forest itself has been used for research since 1964 and was named after two Yukon forestry pioneers.

The Spirit Canyon Trail leads through open forest and rocky landscapes into Spirit Canyon. It is considered a moderate trail that offers stunning views of Ibex Valley and Takhini River Valley. There is no official parking lot at the trailhead! You might hike to the start of the trail from a parking lot at the Alaska Highway.
