First mentioned in the 13th century, Count Finck von Finckenstein acquired the Alt-Madlitz castle estate in 1751. However, the educator of the Prussian kings Friedrich Wilhelm II and Frederick II did not stay there often. It was his son Friedrich Ludwig Karl who first developed the estate into a true court of the muses. Celebrities such as Ludwig Tieck, Achim von Arnim, Wilhelm von Humboldt and Clemens Brentano regularly visited there. Friedrich Ludwig Karl himself developed the plans for the extensive park that extends directly behind the manor house. Cleverly designed visual axes lined with large oak and chestnut trees characterize the oldest English landscape garden in Brandenburg. Finckenstein loved his park so much that he buried his heart there, surrounded by thirteen field stones symbolizing the number of his children. Unfortunately, when we visited in March 2024, all the ponds and even the large lake were almost completely silted up, but it is still worth a walk.

Krügersdorf Castle is located in Beeskow, Brandenburg and is often referred to as a manor house. It was built in 1539 by the Lords of Steinkeller. In 1823 the manor house was destroyed by fire. Three servants were killed. The von Steinkeller family remained in possession of the property until 1845, when it was sold to Friedrich Wilhelm Ludwig Lehmann. Other owners followed before the last, the Möhring family, were expropriated in 1945.
