Camille Lemonnier is said to have been inspired by the valley to compose "L'Hallali".

His commitment to nature conservation was recognised with a memorial in Esneux, where a path is named after him. In addition, in 1932 a medallion was placed in his honour on the Souguenet Viewpoint, a panoramic point offering a magnificent view of Esneux and the Ourthe. Here you will not only find a medallion, but also a large crescent-shaped bench and a viewpoint. The viewpoint, like the path on which it is located, is named after Souguenet.

Léon Souguenet (1871-1938) was a French writer and journalist who settled in Liège. He was an ardent nature lover and ecological pioneer, and played a major role in the creation of the Fête des Arbres in Belgium in 1905. He was also involved in journalism, running Le Journal de Liège and La Province, among others. This spectacular ridge walk follows the rocky heights above the Ourthe valley and offers several breathtaking views, including the iconic La Roche aux Faucons. The route winds through forest, over stony paths and past clearings where you can spot lizards and orchids bloom in spring. Along the way you pass three viewpoints, two of which have benches. The paths are well marked but sometimes narrow and uneven – sturdy shoes are recommended!

At 220 metres high, this limestone cliff offers breathtaking views over the meandering Ourthe valley near Esneux. Once a breeding ground for peregrine falcons, this natural monument is now a protected landscape and one of the most beautiful panoramas in Wallonia. Accessible via the Sentier des Crêtes and other hiking trails, the site offers peace, space and a touch of wilderness.
