この光景は常に見られるとは限りません。雪解け水や激しい雨だけが、斜面から水が湧き出たり、流れ落ちたりして、石灰華の岩の上を水しぶきを立てるのです。 雪解け水や雨水は、Monkbergのカルスト化した石灰岩を浸透し、水をせき止め、さらに導くWeißen Jura Alphaの泥灰岩層に到達します。その後、Untere Haldeの谷の切れ目に、いわゆる層状の泉として現れ、水のつながりから溶け出した石灰分を沈殿させて石灰華を形成します。
