The UNESCO Biosphere Reserve Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Landscape is located in eastern Saxony. The 300-square-kilometer area is the largest contiguous pond area in Germany. The extensive pond landscape north of Bautzen surprised me. A beautiful section of the Spree cycle path.

The location is slightly out of the way and therefore wonderfully quiet. Perfect for observing animals over water and meadows.

Beautiful in every season and perfect for (leisure) cyclists and hikers. There is still potential in terms of gastronomy, but travelers usually have a backpack and provisions with them and nature and the journey are usually the goal:-)

Tip for all ponds: count them, watch the birds, have a picnic (please don't leave any rubbish lying around)

It's just the right place to relax and a real insider tip... relaxing!
