The old shipping canal runs through the city and is now a peaceful place where nature and urban life meet. On the banks you can stroll past trees that provide you with shade and feel the light breeze blowing over the water. The water features in the middle of the canal in particular provide a refreshing change and bring life to the quiet surroundings. Nestled away in the lovely Loughbrickland Forest lies a bronze age ringfort or rath. With its peaceful location surrounded by trees Coolnacran Fort has an almost mystical feel. In spring bluebells carpet the area, and you can explore the interior of the fort. The Forest also has designated walking routes throughout.
