Doing a circuit from Saul Junnction along the canal towards Splatt Bridge, back through Frampton village - two pubs and a cafe - enjoying what is said to be the longest village green in England. Rejoin the canal at Fretherne Bridge and retrace your steps to Saul Junction. 7kms.

Use tarmac path on the other side of the stream if it has been raining or you have wheels.

The Pilot Inn at Hardwicke offers traditional pub food with a nice view. Open Mon to Thurs 12:00 - 22:00, Fri and Sat 12:00 - 23:00 and Sun 12:00 - 21:00. Food served Mon to Fri 12:00 - 14:30 and 17:00 - 20:30, Sat 12:00 - 21:00 and Sun 12:00 - 19:30.

Great stop off for refreshments whether you're passing through on a road bike or taking the canal path on a gravel bike or MTB.

Possibly best avoid on road bike in the winter, except the section from Elmore into Gloucester, which has a pristine surface. The rest is great on any bike during a dry spell.

Surrounded by pretty countryside, Saul Junction is an idyllic place where the Gloucester & Sharpness Canal meets the Stroudwater Canal. Here, you can enjoy a rest and watch ships and boats from around the world navigate the waters. You can also a enjoy a pint at the local pub.

St John’s is a Grade I-listed church situated in picturesque farmland outside the village of Elmore. The church was built in the 13th century and was restored in 1879. The stained glass you see mostly dates from the 19th century.
