The Chesterfield Golf Club was founded in 1897 and its first members played a course in Somersall Park - just over a mile from the club's current home. The club moved to its present site in 1906 when Somersall Park proved too short. The original Walton course consisted of nine holes, taking in much of the land now occupied by the first six holes together with some which is now a public recreation area. In the late 1920s the club acquired Yew Tree Farm and the course was played much as it is now.

Building of the church began in 1234 AD, though the present church dates predominantly from the 14th century. Designated a Grade I listed building in 1971, St Mary's is best known for its twisted and leaning spire (known as the Crooked Spire). It is the largest parish church in the Diocese of Derby and forms part of the Archdeaconry of Chesterfield. In 1994, it also became the UK's only representative in the Association of the Twisted Spires of Europe; of the 72 member churches, it is deemed to have the greatest lean and twist.

A number of slats were missing. I wouldn't advise using it in the dark. 😅

This is in the centre of Chesterfield, there are some tidy, historical buildings. These have sheltered walkways underneath them

Nice rooty & undulating section through the trees alongside the Golf Course & the "Lagoons", good any time of the year.

The Northern Half of the wood has been transformed into the Chesterfield Golf Club, but the Public footpath access remains. The Western side of the wood (Granville's Wood) is Private, used by "The Woodland Burial Company" for tranquil, woodland final resting places.

Was one of the most contaminated sites in Europe, I can remember the smell that stunk really badly from this area .
