Climbing from Cicagna (north side) and passing through the hamlet of Dezerega, the road is mostly paved, with sections reaching gradients of over 20%. You gain 500 meters of elevation gain in about 5 km. It's very shaded, and from the Crocetta Pass, Rapallo is just a short drive away.

The monumental work, dedicated to the "Hero of Two Worlds," Giuseppe Garibaldi (Nice 1807 - Caprera 1882), was created in marble in 1906 by the master sculptors Repetto of Lavagna, based on a design by the Lombard sculptor Odoardo Tabacchi (Valganna 1831 - Milan 1905). The monument depicts the leader on a rock, his face turned toward the sea and his right index finger extended to indicate the direction Garibaldi's followers should follow. His left hand holds a sword. The rock symbolizes the rock of Quarto (Genoa), from which the Expedition of the Thousand set out for Sicily in 1860 to overthrow the Bourbon government. The monument is located in the historic Ghiaia neighborhood, which is deeply rooted in its traditions; the most famous is the Spring Festival, which consists of the lighting of a bonfire and the free distribution of fritters. "A San Gioxeppe, se ti peu, impi a poela de frisceu..." - "A San Giuseppe, se ti peu, impi a poela de frisceu..." - "A San Giuseppe, se ti peu, impi a poela de frisceu..." - "On Saint Joseph's Day, if you can, fill the pan with fritters." The celebration, in honor of Saint Joseph (March 19), takes place the following Sunday. (c) https://www.comune.santa-margherita-ligure.ge.it/it/vivere/735833

The statue is a marble sculpture dating back to the early 20th century, created by Pietro Capurro (Novi Ligure, 1856) on the specific orders of the then mayor of Santa Margherita, Angelo Rainusso, who wanted it in Piazza Mazzini. From Rapallo, along the main road to Santa Margherita, you'll come across the hamlet of San Michele di Pagana. Overlooking a small bay, it has preserved its original seaside village structure, with houses opening directly onto the beach. Standing tall is the Church of San Michele, which houses the precious "Crucifix with Saints Francis and Bernard and Donor" by Anton Van Dyck, donated to the church by the nobleman Francesco Orero in 1643. The building, documented as early as 1133, appears to have been erected on the site of an earlier pagan temple, hence the name Pagana, from "Pagus," a Roman village. Another theory is that a chapel originally stood on the promontory for the use of the Lombard military garrison established in these areas in the 7th century. It was dedicated to Saint Michael, to whom the Lombards were deeply devoted. Over the following centuries, the church underwent numerous restoration and embellishment projects, particularly with the Marquises Spinola, who enriched the interior with the donation of two 15th-century Flemish panels and several important works attributed to Guido Reni, Guercino, and other illustrious 17th- and 18th-century artists. On the cliff behind the church, at Punta Pagana, stands a 16th-century quadrilateral tower, another defensive structure from Turkish pirates on this stretch of coast, where the three bays of Travello, Prelo, and Pomaro represented safe harbors on the western side of the gulf.
