The "Pferdeloch" (Horse Hole) is a narrow and deep gorge formed by a landslide. During the Thirty Years' War, the local population hid their livestock here from plundering soldiers. The viewpoint above the Pferdeloch, at an altitude of approximately 470 meters, offers a view of Hitzelrode and the Hohestein mountain. Beautiful view to the right past the Hörne into the Werra Valley near Bad Sooden-Allendorf. Rothestein Castle is located on the small ridge directly before the Werra River.

The house is very quietly located on the edge of the forest, directly on the hiking and walking trails of the resort of Meinhard-Hitzelrode.

The Protestant village church of Hitzelrode is beautiful to look at.

Here a path branches off from the Werra-Burgen-Steig to Hitzelrode, where there is a bus connection to Eschwege.

Hello everyone! Several orchids are growing around the border post. These plants belong to the species group of the spotted fingerwort, which is considered "particularly protected" under the Federal Nature Conservation Act (BundesnatschG) and listed as "nearly endangered" on the Red List. Until they have developed their beautiful pale pink flowers, the plants can be identified by their distinctly brown-spotted leaves. These orchids are easily recognized from May to July. It would be a shame if this population were destroyed due to ignorance. So: "Please be careful and keep your eyes open when looking at the border post!"
