Otterndorf Church, the St. Severi Church received its current external form in the lead-up to the installation of the Dietrich-Christoph-Gloger organ of 1741, the largest Baroque organ in the Elbe-Weser organ region and Organ of the Year 2020. Due to the so-called "Otterndorf Organ Dispute" (1665), in which the arguments of Superintendent Hector Mithobius prevailed against the organ-critical Rostock professor Großgebauer, Otterndorf is considered the birthplace of Lutheran organ culture.
