"Talking stones" is what the old gravestones in the St. Clemens cemetery in Nebel are called on Amrum. Indeed, the inscriptions tell of the lives of sailors over the centuries, including some truly adventurous tales.

The single-nave, thatched building, constructed of fieldstone and brick, was built around 1240 as a simple church and houses several special art treasures, such as the group of apostles, the baptismal font, and an altar with an altarpiece. The neo-Romanesque bell tower was built in 1908.

A hike around the Odde is a wonderful experience, experiencing two different coastal landscapes on the outward and return journey. If you're lucky, you might even spot seals resting at the northern tip, so be sure to bring your binoculars. From here, you can also see the south coast of Sylt, including the Hörnum lighthouse, as well as the west coast of Föhr.

A total of 30 Frisian benches with Frisian sayings have been set up on Amrum, 10 each in Norddorf, Nebel, and Wittdün. The saying is inscribed in "öömrang" (literally "öömrang"). A booklet with all translations into Standard German and an interpretation is available at the tourist information office.

Norddorf (in Öömrang "Noorsaarep") is, along with Süddorf ("Sössaarep"), the oldest of Amrum's villages. Both villages were first documented in 1464, but both were already settled in prehistoric and early historical times. In 1925, a major fire destroyed many houses in the historic village center. Since then, in contrast to Nebel or Süddorf, the villagescape has been dominated by newer houses without thatched roofs.

At 32 meters, it is the highest dune on Amrum. From here, you have an excellent view over the dune landscape all the way to Hörnum on Sylt, or across the municipality of Norddorf to the northern tip of Amrum, the "Odde."
