The church was built as a neo-Romanesque hall building with a west tower and eastern apse. However, the sacred building also features elements from other eras, which is particularly evident in the two stepped gables, which in this form were rather atypical for the Romanesque period. The same can be said – in the area of village church construction – of the dimensions of the windows, which were considerably smaller in the Romanesque period. Numerous details characterize the exterior of the church, including pinnacles at the corners of the nave, bull's-eye windows, cornices, clocks and friezes on the tower, columns in the tower's sound holes, and even stepped window openings. During the First World War, the copper covering of the brick spire was donated in 1916 as part of the German People's Metal Donation.
