A beautifully restored castle complex, towering high above the town. Unfortunately, it's not accessible.

Wernburg, shrouded in legend The gable stone is located near the hill of the Wernburg. Tools made of flint and animal bones from people from the Paleolithic period have been found up here. Remains of a living cave and destroyed old graves also bear witness to early use. The Wernburg may have been used as a vantage point for scouting out hunting prey and enemy groups. The site may also have served as a place of worship. Around 1850 there were said to have been 20 to 30 individual stone blocks on an area of 20 meters in diameter. It is known from finds of other stone groups that animal fat was filled into the hollows on top of the stones, which was lit with the help of a wick. The places were illuminated for cult ceremonies. The actual name “Wernburg” indicates a fortified complex. It is assumed that a little below the summit between the “Lastberg” and the “Riedelhalle” there was an early medieval refuge for the Tauschwitz residents. DIETZEL, W.
