It served as a trigonometric point for land surveying, with both an older and a more recent stone marking the location. The tower was part of a network of approximately 900 watchtowers along the Limes, used for communication and defense.

The remains of the Limes watchtower "Marienhöhe" are located here. The information board there provides detailed information about the construction of the watchtower.

The navigation is miserable and has nothing to do with the map material, you are almost always outside the tour or in front of or behind it, or you are prevented from turning back. Example: follow the path for 700 m, then after 50 m you cannot turn: you have leave the tour, the tour is behind you, after another 50 meters: the tour is 130 m to your left. without local knowledge you are really in a fix with this navigation.

Aschhausen is a district of Schöntal. Start: The path begins and ends at the village square in the center of Aschhausen. Circular trail approx. 2.5 km long, 12 panels. On the circular route you can learn a lot about the history of the cultural landscape and the medicinal plants that grow there.
