It's amazing how many ups and downs this wooded inland dune landscape of Boomberge has. It used to be a heathland with flocks of sheep, but is now covered in conifers, oak and birch. It's a shame that the heath is no longer there. But the hills are still there and they are also good terrain for mountain bikers.

The Boomberge have been a nature reserve since 2004 and are home to rare plant and animal species. The Boomberge were formed during the last ice age 10,000 years ago by sand deposits from water-rich rivers. Due to its popularity, the nature reserve sometimes reaches its limits, which is why there are designated paths whose use helps protect nature.

A great nature reserve on the edge of the renatured Lutter with moor, mosses and wet meadows with small ponds.

The information board is very nice and informative. Very good for on-site orientation.

The Hühnermoor nature reserve is located east of Marienfeld an der Lutter in the Gütersloh district. It covers an area of 8.5 hectares and was first protected as a nature reserve in 1938. A new regulation was issued by the Detmold district president on June 2, 1965. In 1986, the areas were purchased by the Gütersloh district to protect the moorland habitat.
