A church was first mentioned there in 1301. In 1659, a visitation report described it as a very poor, dilapidated little church. It had only one altar and only one chalice. It was only in 1775 that Abbot Bernhard Winterl (1744-1780) had the old little church torn down and the current single-nave church with a round choir built in the Baroque style. On the western side rises the squat porch tower with the flat pyramid roof.

The Drava is a tributary of the Danube that rises in the Italian South Tyrol, then flows through East Tyrol and Carinthia as well as Lower Styria, Croatia and Hungary.
