The hiking trail coming up from Kogl is moderately steep, but quite tricky when wet. At the top there is a beautiful view towards Almtal/Kasberg, possibly even parts of the Priel massif and to the southwest to the Traunstein.

A worthwhile destination for a tour or for a detour off the main route. A pretty, tranquil place with a few sights. You can linger a while in this place, there is a lot to discover!

Herbert Danzer is an Austrian artist who specializes in carving wooden sculptures using a chainsaw. He calls himself Motorsagla and has his workshop in Kirchham, Upper Austria. He creates impressive sculptures out of wood, often depicting animals, people or mythical creatures. He is also an experienced teacher who offers courses in carving with a chainsaw. He has participated in various competitions and became runner-up in chainsaw carving in 2018. One of his most famous works is a life-size wooden mermaid that stands in front of his workshop and attracts many eyes.

Kirchham is a municipality in Upper Austria in the Gmunden district in the Traunviertel with 2,235 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2023). It lies between 430 and 806 meters above sea level at the foot of the last foothills of the Alpine foothills, at the gateway to the Salzkammergut. Drainage occurs through the Outer and Drought Laudach. The municipality consists of 22 towns, which are spread over six cadastral communities. Kirchham has a long history that dates back to Roman times. The Roman road from Gmunden to Eisengattern ran through today's municipal area.

On the journey from Vorchdorf to Gmunden, in the municipality of Kirchham, a life-sized wooden mermaid attracts everyone's attention. In front of the sculpture there is a large wooden sign with the inscription MOTORSAGLA, the artist name of Herbert Danzer. It's hard to believe that Danzer's lifelike mermaid was carved with a chainsaw, but it is true.

The best chainsaw carver in Austria comes from Kirchham. Herbert Danzer from Kirchham in the Salzkammergut is the reigning vice national champion in chainsaw carving and creates impressive sculptures out of wood.

The municipal area covers 28 square kilometers and extends between 430 and 806 meters (Haberg) above sea level. The cadastral communities of Feichtenberg, Kaltenmarkt, Kampesberg, Kirchham, Kogl and Krottendorf form our municipality. Kirchham is crossed by the two "Laudach rivers". The "Äußere Laudach" rises in the area around the Traunstein near the Laudachsee. The two source rivers of the "Dürren and Innere Laudach" are the "Platzbach" and the "Edlbach". These two get their water from the wooded Kirchham mountains - the Hochkogl, the Himmelreich, the Feichtenberg and from the border mountains Bäckerberg and Haberg. The history of the municipality of Kirchham is closely linked to the history of the Kirchham parish.
