The well-preserved castle is an essential part of the historic old town, perched on a hill. And we felt the same way as @Scout Jens: the view from below of the castle and old town had a certain promise and was the most beautiful view.

The old town, perched on a hill, features several half-timbered houses, charming corners, an Art Nouveau building (the school), and two museums—a surprisingly well-preserved historic structure. However, there are also many vacant buildings. The town is clearly struggling with rural exodus.

The Talmühle (valley mill) dating from 1709 was city-owned, unbanned (meaning without special territorial privileges), open to outside customers, and had two grinding mills and one tanning mill. It was leased to existing millers and was purchased in 1783 by the Auch miller family, who still own and operate the city mill at Hauptstraße 14 today.

Many historic half-timbered houses can still be found in the historic town center. One of the most beautiful half-timbered buildings with a colonnade is located on Obere Schlossstraße.

The pump house was built in 1928 to supply the community's domestic water supply and includes a spring, which is still active.
