2 Imposing redwoods

Calw Town Hall stands at Marktplatz 9. The first town hall was built in 1454. Several renovations and alterations were carried out in the 19th century. In 1929, the figures on the facade were added. They symbolize the three most important duties of the city towards its citizens: a knight for protection and justice, a tree planted to represent the community's roots and flourishing, and a mother with children for care. Beneath the town hall arcades were the benches or market stalls of the bakers and butchers; today, a modern event space is housed there, its glass facade emphasizing the building's original architectural form. When concerns arose about the town hall's stability in 2007, it was vacated, and parts of the city administration were relocated. Extensive renovations began in 2014 and lasted almost three years. The market square with its half-timbered showcase houses, the Protestant church and the market fountain are all calendar motifs.

Calw's old town enchants with its colorful alleys, half-timbered houses, bridges, and history. Its most famous son was Hermann Hesse, whose footsteps can be found everywhere. The Nagold River flows through the town, adding the icing on the cake.
