The bell was stolen in 1613.

Behind this picturesque wooden bridge spanning the Weida stream lies a very well-maintained area, called a multi-generational playground, with a lawn, benches, and outdoor exercise equipment. We had a lot of fun and warmed up in no time!

In the town hall square stands a replica of the historic Alzey bell. The original was cast in 1613 and probably taken to Holland during the Thirty Years' War, according to the information panel.

The sculpture incorporates the following quote by the Enlightenment thinker Gotthold Ephraim Lessing, who was born in Kamenz. It is a motto of the Old Town Association, but could just as well serve as a motto for the town twinning between Alzey and Kamenz: “Only that which you yourself give up is truly lost.”

In the restored section of the Selz river, the beaver has built a large lodge and dammed the river to create a small lake. It looks absolutely fantastic.
