Unique for its 1835 George Stephenson tunnel and its role as both a working engine shed and a visitor hub, the station is quite spectacular even on a dreary winter's day when there are no events on and no locomotives in the station. A flashback to the mid-twentieth century.

Note that the track from Beck Hole to this waterfall is very boggy in places, and part of the track is very high up and narrow, making it slightly difficult to navigate in summer when the gorse bushes are encroaching over the track. Slow and steady with good footwear is essential. There are 2 further waterfalls upstream, Water Ark Foss and Walk Mill Foss, but they can't be accessed from this track from Beck Hole, you would need take either the footpath from Darnholm, or the footpath from Lins Farm just to the northeast of Beck Hole.

Whilst this waterfall is relatively accessible, as others point out it is a bit of a scramble, with the rocks still quite slippery and treacherous in the height of summer, as they are permanently in the shade and damp. In summer, the valley that the track to the waterfall runs through provides welcome respite from the heat of the day.

Tiny little hamlet surrounded by lots of public footpaths and bridleways, can be easily reached from Goathland via a dismantled railway track that is also a public footpath.

Iconic and extremely peaceful early in the morning before the crowds arrive. Easy access through the station and over the line (directly over the line or via a small footbridge) to get to the public footpaths that ascend Mill Moor and Goathland Moor to the east.

It is said the Hermitage dates back to the 18th century and that it was the home of a hermit who lived a life of foraging for fuel and food in the woods. The Hermitage is ideal for an emergency bivvy shelter.

Goathland Railway Station is on the line between Pickering and Whitby. This is a tourist old age, historical type railway line. The station itself is pleasant and well kept. Station guards were happy to open the gates allowing me to push my bike over the railway line

The beautiful 70 ft high Mallyan Spout waterfall is the tallest one in the North York Moors National Park. It is not recommended for anyone with mobility issues as it involves scrambling over rocks.

Note the path is a little treacherous and is not recommended for anyone with reduced mobility. A lovely waterfall once you get to the end of the path. One for the wild swimmers/dippers

Goathland railway station is a station on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. It has also been used in numerous television and film productions

TMC The Model Center

A must-see - you can't miss this. This is the tallest waterfall in North York Moors, with a 70 feet vertical drop. Many people call the sight and the experience of it 'epic'!

A beautiful spot here at Shooting House Rigg, where it's worth making a stop to admire the area. You've Fylingdales Moor stretching to the north and south, and the wooded Sneaton Moor is to the west. The sight of the solitary tree in the middle of the moorland here is quite striking.

The small shop ("The Shack") that belongs to the Heritage Railway Station is also worth a visit, also (or perhaps especially) for those who are not train buffs: I was amazed at what was going on here. is to find and how grown men, who had just bought that one item they were missing, stood talking passionately about their own past on the railways.
