The waterfall is called Sour Milk Ghyll. Yesterday it was the fullest I have ever seen it. Fabulous. But also the side streams on the walk were remarkably wild and high, and I had to wade through one thigh deep because stepping from stone to stone when there was a lot of water flowing over them was too risky at my age. I think the "Fix the Fells" people are building a bridge though, and the slabs through the boggy parts are making it much easier.

Plenty of places to grab some food and buy some hiking gear or shoes for your doggo

The Rydal Coffin Route is a historic walking route in the Lake District. The route takes its name from the fact that it was the traditional route used to carry the coffins of the deceased for burial to St Oswald's Church in Grasmere, as there were no burial places at Rydal and Ambleside. It is a popular route, known for its magnificent views over Rydal Water and the surrounding mountains, and also passes famous places such as Rydal Mount and Dove Cottage, former home of the poet William Wordsworth.

This was William Wordsworth's beloved family home for most of his life, from 1813 until his death in 1850 at the age of 80. The house and garden can be visited.

This bridge allows you to walk over the River Rothay with dry feet.
