Toggenburg Mountain Railways The first mountain railway company in Toggenburg was founded on September 11, 1933. It operates the Unterwasser-Iltios funicular. In 1971/1972, the aerial cable car connecting Iltios to the summit of Chäserrugg was built. In 2008, the Alt St. Johann Selamatt AG sports facilities and the Unterwasser Iltios Chäserrugg AG mountain railways merged, and the newly merged company became Toggenburg Bergbahnen AG (TBB). Five years later, in 2014, the Iltios AG ski lift and the Stöfeli AG mountain inn were integrated into the company. In June 2015, after a year of construction, the mountain station designed by Herzog & de Meuron and featuring the summit restaurant opened. In the fall of the same year, TBB merged the Unterwasser and Alt St. Johann ski schools and integrated them into Chäserrugg Sports AG. The Stöfeli cable car was also built in collaboration with Herzog & de Meuron and opened in January 2016. In the summer of 2017, the Iltios mountain restaurant was integrated into the company, and in December, the Espel Pavilion, another project with Herzog & de Meuron, was inaugurated. Chäserrugg Unterwasser Train Station In summer 2024 (opened on December 13, 2024), the valley station in Unterwasser was rebuilt and now connects arrival, stay, and onward travel in the style of a train station. At the same time, the funicular between Unterwasser and Iltios was also renovated. Learn more about the new Unterwasser train station with its new funicular, café-bar, and Tourist Information Center. The "Unterwasser Train Station" valley station is the sixth building in the Chäserrugg area designed by architects Herzog & de Meuron. The building connects the valley station of the new funicular with the café-bar, Tourist Information Center, and offices of the Klangwelt (sound world). When we were there, the church was closed, meaning the main door was open, but the inner door was closed. However, you could still see inside through the glass.

Stations of the Cross to the Grotto, Wangs The grotto and the Stations of the Cross in Wangs are located on a section of the Pfarrer Künzle Weg in the Buchholz area. Starting from the parish church, the path leads left along Dorfstrasse uphill to the fountain with a beautiful wayside cross. Follow the green signposts of Pfarrer Künzle Weg on Fontanixstrasse. To the left, the path leads over the bridge over the "Chlibach," where the first station of the Stations of the Cross is located. Continue along the forest path to the wooden bridge, which must be crossed. The Stations of the Cross continue along the paved Buchholzstrasse to the fountain with the final station. Grotto in Buchholz, Wangs The Wangs Mariengrotto was created on the initiative of Pastor Künzle in 1912/1913, and the bell tower was added in 1916. A cross is located on the vaulted hill in front of the tower. A Pietà (Mother of God with suffering Jesus) in the Nazarene style was placed in the grotto. Tüfels Chuchi, Wangs Interesting cave at an uplifting power spot The Tüfels Chuchi is a geologically interesting miniature cave. Covered in moss, dripping and dispensing water, the rock opens up. Energetically speaking, the Tüfels Chuchi is a good, uplifting power spot. The name is quite intriguing, as it demonizes a healthy, strongly vibrating place, which suggests that the place was known and used very early on. Had it been more important, a forest chapel would probably greet us at this location. Important Celtic and pre-Celtic sites have often been Christianized, while less important ones have been demonized. Pastor Künzle Trail Easy themed circular hike at the foot of the Pizol with over 37 herbal pictures and 16 biographical panels Starting from Wang's town hall square, via the forest nature trail, Buchholz Grotto, ravine, waterfall, past mystical vein stars, the trail continues towards the former Bad Wang spa (now a private school). The route continues along the Rappagugg high trail, where a second Künzle grotto is located. Passing the old mill, the trail leads to Vilters Church, where the new Künzle sculpture, carved into a tree trunk, shines next door. Continue through the village of Vilters towards Vilters gravel pit. Here you'll find a great children's playground with a fire pit. Continue to Wang's gravel pit, Wang Church, Pastor Künzle's grave, and back to the town hall square.
