In 1691, Land Commander Franz Benedikt von Baden acquired the Achberg estate for the Teutonic Order. In keeping with his noble status, he had the castle expanded between 1693 and 1700.

Old Castle (Town Hall) Built in 1667 under Count Johann V by the Vorarlberg architect Michael Kuen. Converted into a town hall in 1904 After almost all of the town's houses and the castle were destroyed in the Thirty Years' War - the then Count Hugo took refuge with his family in the house at Montfortstrasse 37 after his return - his son Count Johann V built the simple castle in 1667. The architect was Michael Kuen from Vorarlberg. After the construction of the New Castle, the Old Castle served as the head forester's residence and office, as well as a storage hall for tithes and a drying hall for hops. In 1903, the town of Tettnang bought the Old Castle for 35,000 marks and converted it into a town hall in 1904/05.  From the Tettnang city tour
