The Catholic Youth Center is also a popular rest stop for hikers. It's self-service, but the prices are reasonable. There are also several rooms available for rent for events.

The large information panel in front of the castle marks the start of the historical trail. The first image is a reconstruction of the castle as it was built in 1482. A moat with a drawbridge and a surrounding wall (still standing today) with corner towers enclosed the inner courtyard with its buildings and a residential tower.

In the lower part the path is quite promising. The view up to Hohenneuffen is particularly impressive. It gets shadier higher up. Unless there is tourist traffic, there is very little going on on the path.

The Achalm (707 m) is one of the most important landmarks in Reutlingen, along with the Marienkirche and the Tübinger Tor. Unfortunately, only a few remains of the walls of the former castle and today's lookout tower, built around 1838 on the foundations of the former keep, have survived.
