Thetford forest trails are all good for beginners being in one of the flattest counties of our country it’s v v flat it’s more cross country style riding than mountain biking.

Take time to go off the trail to the bird hides and vantage points around the water. The route is best in spring before the nettles take over the path in summer!

Starting from the forestry commision car park, hed over the bridge and turn right. This will give you several options for forestry trails and if you head towards Lynford you can then pop on to the road for a short trip to Browns cafe.

Fire Road 7

The Stanton Downham Bridge was built during the first world war as a rail bridge to transport timber and logging machines. It's been a road bridge since about 1922. The bridge crosses the Little Ouse River.

Depending on the season the long route maybe closed due to maintenance of the trail or tree felling

Open 9am till 5pm everyday

The trail features a series of relatively tight bermed turns that wind down the hill. This section is frequently used, which can lead to a loose or rutted surface. You'll also encounter a few rollovers along the descent to add some excitement before re-entering the trees.

The fantastic bailey gate here reminds me of a similar specimen I saw in Belgium at Veurne. Not far from here is the Red Lion Hostel which is run by a 90 year old lady called Alison, wonderful place to stay if you get the chance.

Lovely crossing to the south of Castle Acre if you come in following the Peddars way, there is a view out to the old Monastery.

One of the fastest blue sections, put your foot down and go.
