The inner castle courtyard is currently closed to day visitors 😏, thanks to the coronavirus. The beautiful outdoor area and a tour of the castle are possible and worthwhile.

Bodenstein Castle has been enthroned in the Ohm Mountains since 1098 and can be seen from afar. It is the best preserved medieval castle in Eichsfeld.

The field name Etzelsbach could be derived from the Old High German name for Elster - agaza. The former settlement area Etzelsbach is listed for the first time in the damage register of the Beuren monastery: ... Item 7 guilders before 1 bells to Etzelsbach of 1 hundredweight.
