The stone from 1748 is a reminder of the forest grazing that has been practiced in the Reinhardswald for centuries. A "Waldhudens Reglement vor die Frantzösische Colonie Mariendorf" (1747) was issued especially for the new residents of Mariendorf. It specified the grazing districts into which "your draft animals, your cattle, your sheep" could be driven. Goats were expressly forbidden from grazing on the forest pastures because they caused too much damage. The borders of the grazing districts were marked with consecutively numbered grazing stones.
