7月 12, 2024, 24 Wassersprünge, Schlosspark Ludwigslust
The 24 "water jumps" in the Ludwigslust Canal in the Ludwigslust Palace Park are really worth seeing and it is worth walking the path through the beautiful palace park to get here. The water jumps are powered exclusively by the water gradient. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datei:Ludwigslust_Schlosspark_24_Wasserspr%C3%BCnge.JPG

The grotto is an artificial ruin built around 1785 from lawn iron stone. In addition to its romantic and decorative function, it also served practical purposes as an ice cellar. Source:https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schloss_Ludwigslust

The grotto, built from bog iron stone in 1788, served as a romantic setting for courtyard festivals (imaginable :)) and as an ice cellar.

2月 27, 2022, Dömitz Harbor and Speicherhotel
The Dömitz harbor is located on the Elde river, just before it flows into the Elbe. A pretty little harbor through which the Elbe cycle path also runs. The Dömitz harbor hotel with a panoramic café is located in a former warehouse building.

The so-called grotto is an artificially created ruin. Built from lawn ironstone to further emphasize the decayed character of the artificially created ruin. It is somewhat hidden in the Ludwigslust Palace Park. Children will certainly have fun in the grotto. You can climb around the wall or play hide-and-seek between the individual gates. The grotto is also a popular background motif for wedding photos and cultural events in the park.

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Helena and Andreas was commissioned by Friedrich Franz I in 1803 as the first neo-Gothic church building and one of the oldest Roman Catholic churches in Mecklenburg. St. Helena and Andrew is located in the castle park on an artificial island, while the bell tower was built on the mainland across the moat. A highlight even from the outside: on closer inspection, the church front is reminiscent of a city gate from that time, while the entire rest of the building with its tapering shape resembles a ship. St. Helena and Andreas is also particularly beautiful on the inside. Not only the various relief figures, but also real craftsmanship from the 15th century are particularly impressive here: the high altar is an original carving from the Doberan Minster, while the choir windows show pictures of the apostles that were painted in the 15th century for the Hamburg Cathedral, which was demolished in 1805 are. St. Helena and Andreas therefore makes a good contribution to the fact that old art can live on and be admired. https://www.ludwigslust.m-vp.de/katzer-kirche-st-helena-und-st-andreas/

9月 18, 2021, St. Helena und St. Andreas Kirche mit Glockenturm, Schlosspark Ludwigslust
Saint Helena, to whom this church (next to Saint Andrew) is consecrated, was the mother of the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great (who recognized Christianity as a religion after his victory at the “Milvian Bridge” in front of Rome and the long period of persecution with the "Edict of Tolerance" of Milan ended). In the early fourth century she went on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land (Israel / Palestine) and brought numerous relics from there to Europe, including the "True Cross" on which Jesus Christ was crucified. It is therefore often represented with a cross as an attribute. The feast day of Saint Helena in the saints calendar is August 18th.

The neo-Gothic St. Helena Church from 1809 stands on an artificially created island in the castle park. It is the second oldest Catholic church in Mecklenburg. Curious: the bell tower was not built on the small island near the castle, but on the other bank of the church pond. https://www.ndr.de/ratgeber/reise/mecklenburg/Schlosspark-Ludwigslust,ludwigslust104.html

The spaciously designed palace square is dominated by the basin's cascades, created between 1780 and 1785 by the Bohemian sculptor Rudolf Kaplunger. These sandstone cascades replaced the original wooden cascade. The figurative decorations represent the river gods of the Rögnitz and the Stör. The Ludwigslust Canal was built between 1756 and 1760 as a 26 km long connecting axis, connecting these two rivers and enabling the Baroque water features. In 2008, the cascade underwent its first comprehensive renovation, and now not only the cascade but also the figures literally shine in new splendor. The water features are not only worth seeing in summer; on cold winter days, the watercourses become icy works of art. The Palace Square is also adorned with several beautiful half-timbered buildings, the monument to Frederick Francis I, and the "Old Guardhouse," built as a guardhouse and detention center. From here, you can enjoy one of the city's most beautiful views: from the palace to the Cascades and further to the City Church. Situated in a straight line between the palace and the City Church is the newly designed memorial to the victims of the Wöbbelin concentration camp, with the cube designed by Herbert Bartholomäus as the central object of the memorial. https://www.ludwigslust.de/kultur-und-tourismus/sehenswertes-00001-00001/schlossplatz-und-kaskaden/
