7月 12, 2024, 24 Wassersprünge, Schlosspark Ludwigslust
The 24 "water jumps" in the Ludwigslust Canal in the Ludwigslust Palace Park are really worth seeing and it is worth walking the path through the beautiful palace park to get here. The water jumps are powered exclusively by the water gradient. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Datei:Ludwigslust_Schlosspark_24_Wasserspr%C3%BCnge.JPG

The grotto, built from bog iron stone in 1788, served as a romantic setting for courtyard festivals (imaginable :)) and as an ice cellar.

The so-called grotto is an artificially created ruin. Built from lawn ironstone to further emphasize the decayed character of the artificially created ruin. It is somewhat hidden in the Ludwigslust Palace Park. Children will certainly have fun in the grotto. You can climb around the wall or play hide-and-seek between the individual gates. The grotto is also a popular background motif for wedding photos and cultural events in the park.

1月 15, 2022, Ludwigsluster Kanal Cascade and Stone Bridge
When Frederick the Pious decided to move his residence from Schwerin to his father's remote hunting lodge "Ludwigs-Lust", the first thing he did was to have the canal system built (1756-1760): 28 km long from the Stör to the Rögnitz, with a 14 m gradient. The masterpiece of the cascades was created directly in front of what was then the hunting lodge. From there, the canal with fountains ("water jumps") and waterfalls goes through the forest and uses the former fatherly hunting path as a route, which led to the hunting star of the "14 avenues". Since then, the canal system has shaped the unique character of the palace park. The stone bridge was built in 1780 by court architect J.J. Busch to replace an older wooden bridge. In 1980 a falling beech tree destroyed the bridge and vase; however, through persistent citizen engagement, both were restored. The ramparts on both sides of the canal up to the fountain known as the "Monk" were renovated in 2014 with lawn benches, stairways and rows of trees, as is handed down on old engravings. www.stadtludwigslust.de/kultur-und-tourismus/sehenswertes-00001-00001/schlosspark

The Roman Catholic Church of St. Helena and Andreas was commissioned by Friedrich Franz I in 1803 as the first neo-Gothic church building and one of the oldest Roman Catholic churches in Mecklenburg. St. Helena and Andrew is located in the castle park on an artificial island, while the bell tower was built on the mainland across the moat. A highlight even from the outside: on closer inspection, the church front is reminiscent of a city gate from that time, while the entire rest of the building with its tapering shape resembles a ship. St. Helena and Andreas is also particularly beautiful on the inside. Not only the various relief figures, but also real craftsmanship from the 15th century are particularly impressive here: the high altar is an original carving from the Doberan Minster, while the choir windows show pictures of the apostles that were painted in the 15th century for the Hamburg Cathedral, which was demolished in 1805 are. St. Helena and Andreas therefore makes a good contribution to the fact that old art can live on and be admired. https://www.ludwigslust.m-vp.de/katzer-kirche-st-helena-und-st-andreas/

Saint Helena, to whom this church (next to Saint Andrew) is consecrated, was the mother of the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great (who recognized Christianity as a religion after his victory at the “Milvian Bridge” in front of Rome and the long period of persecution with the "Edict of Tolerance" of Milan ended). In the early fourth century she went on a pilgrimage to the Holy Land (Israel / Palestine) and brought numerous relics from there to Europe, including the "True Cross" on which Jesus Christ was crucified. It is therefore often represented with a cross as an attribute. The feast day of Saint Helena in the saints calendar is August 18th.
