Fürstenberg/Havel, also known as the water town, is located in the north of Brandenburg on the Oberhavel and is characterized by a large number of lakes, rivers and streams. The city is rich in historical and architectural attractions, such as the ducal castle, designed by Julius Löwe, and the town church by Friedrich Wilhelm Buttel. Another important landmark is the Ravensbrück Memorial, which commemorates the victims of the Ravensbrück concentration camp during the Nazi era. Fürstenberg/Havel is a popular tourist destination thanks to its location in the Neustrelitzer Kleinseenland. The city has benefited from tourism, which is an important industry, since the opening of the Berlin Northern Railway in 1878. Next to the bridge there is a small swimming opportunity in the clear Stechlin.
