The church was built as a rectangular fieldstone structure with a western transept tower the width of the nave. The tower likely dates from the 14th century. The church was severely damaged during the Thirty Years' War and was not rebuilt until 1686. Significant restorations took place in 1969/1970 and again in the 1990s, when the roofs were renewed.

The church was open, but the interior was blocked off by a door, which allowed one to look through and see the altar. Unfortunately, many churches are blocked off, so this one stood out in a positive way. The Uckermark region is very beautiful in general; I hadn't heard of it before.

In the parish of Gramzow-Briest, St. Mary's Church in Gramzow is one of the largest churches. It stands on particularly venerable ground - there was a church in Gramzow as early as 1168 - and forms an impressive ensemble with the nearby ruins (west choir) of the church of the former Premonstratensian monastery.
