The Lühe bascule bridge is a movable bridge. It is part of the Lühe flood barrier near Grünendeich and carries County Road 39 over the Lühe River. It serves as flood protection, as it can be opened to allow shipping traffic. The flood barrier protects the surrounding towns from storm surges and was built between 1964 and 1967. Important information about the Lühe bascule bridge: The bridge is located at the mouth of the Lühe River where it flows into the Elbe River near Grünendeich. Its function allows shipping traffic over the Lühe flood barrier. It also protects against flooding. The bridge is operated by the Lower Saxony State Agency for Water Management, Coastal Protection and Nature Conservation (NLWKN). Opening hours: Between April 15th and September 30th, the bridge operator is on site daily from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM. During these hours, the bridge is opened for use during the three hours before and after high tide. A visit is highly recommended and interesting 👍🏻.

Lühe - Lower Light As early as 1868, a harbor light with a sixth-order lens light is said to have stood on the west side of the Lühe estuary. It was a small, round, white tower with a focal height of 36.5 feet and a range of 5 nautical miles. The light shone in all directions out onto the Elbe and the surrounding landscape. Between 1872 and 1873, the Hamburg Senate had five new lighthouses built along the Elbe. Thus, in 1873, a wooden lighthouse with a sixth-order lens and a kerosene lamp as its light source was erected at the Lühe estuary. A leading line was established at Lühe and Grünendeich on the Lower Elbe in 1899. Both of these lights are still standing today. The upper light from this period is still in operation.

A very beautiful mill in Jork. A short detour from the main road, then turn left and you've arrived. Unfortunately, the café is closed and no longer in operation. A real shame since October 30, 2023. Nevertheless, the mill is still worth seeing.

A fantastic cycling and hiking trail runs along the Elbe dike from Grünendeich and the surrounding villages. A bike ride or a lovely hike here is highly recommended 👍🏻.

The Salztor Lock in Stade Harbor. Water levels in Stade are regulated by three locks located at the Salztor (Salt Gate), the Old Harbor at the Fish Market, and at the Backeltrog and Schiffertor (Skipper's Gate). This regulation occurs during high and low tide, as well as from rainwater runoff from the Stade Geest hinterland. Without these locks, the old town would suffer from wet feet and flooded cellars. The operating hours of the Salztor Lock in Stade are determined by the tide. The Salztor Lock served as a flushing lock from 1875 to 1925.
