Herdern Castle is a place of residence and work for people with psychosocial difficulties. In the impressive building you can visit the castle shop, where you can buy tasty hiking provisions as well as other specialties and souvenirs. Right next door is a church worth seeing.

The old bells are behind the church at the entrance to the cemetery. A GREAT IDEA: there are painting materials for the children hanging in colorful cloth bags in the church. A drinking water fountain at the intersection helps in the summer.

From Stein am Rhein you can take the bus to the Höwald stop. There you cross the road to the left. Then immediately turn right onto the forest path. We leave the forester's house at Nägelsee behind us and come to a forest clearing and a barbecue area. The view is beautiful. You can see the entire Alpine chain from east to west. Then continue towards Klingenzell. As soon as the meadows are in sight, you will see a farm with a crossroad on the left. At first you are a little confused as to where the path continues. So the path leads directly into the forest. After that it is easy to walk to the Klingenzell restaurant. There is good food there. Price-performance ratio is right for Swiss people. It may be on the higher end for foreign guests. At the front of the chapel it goes down to Echenz train station or Stein am Rhein. My trip ended in Klingenzell because I was picked up. I hope I have made the hike appealing to you anyway.

Klingenzell is known far beyond the region's borders thanks to the pilgrimage church "Seven Sorrows of Mary", but is also popular with hikers because of its beautiful location high above the Untersee and the idyllic Klingenzellerhof country inn. The church is popular as a place of worship for weddings. The patronal feast is celebrated on the Friday after the 5th Sunday of Lent.

What a brilliant vantage point, known for centuries, the view stretches from Lake Constance across the beautiful panorama of the area to the Alps. There has to be a bench and a barbecue area right here, everything is perfect here.
