Wiessenstein Castle in Pommersfelden was built between 1711 and 1718 under Lothar Franz von Schönborn, the Bamberg Prince-Bishop and Elector of Mainz in Pommersfelden near Bamberg as a private summer residence. It is regarded as the founding building of the Franconian Baroque and is still owned by the Schönborn family. A visit is absolutely worthwhile. Attention: Hourly guided tours! There is a good cafe nearby.

The Margravial Palace Erlangen, built in Erlangen from 1700, together with the Palace Garden, Orangery and Church of the Concord, forms the first completely redesigned, self-contained Baroque ensemble in Franconia. Atzelsberg Castle boasts beautifully maintained grounds, and there's an inn with a lovely beer garden next door. It's located directly on the hiking trail and has a parking lot, making it a great starting point for hikes.
