Weißenstein Castle, also known as Pommersfelden Castle, was built between 1711 and 1718 as a private summer residence under Lothar Franz von Schönborn, the Prince-Bishop of Bamberg and Elector of Mainz in Pommersfelden near Bamberg. It is considered the founding building of the Franconian baroque and is still owned by the Schönborn family. Weißenstein Castle is also an officially named district of Pommersfelden.

Here is the entrance area to Weißenstein Castle.
If you go through the entrance gate you would get into the courtyard, but unfortunately the castle is currently completely sealed off, you can neither get to the courtyard nor the park.

He had inherited a moated castle, but this was not representative enough for Lothar Franz Graf von Schönborn. So he had a magnificent summer residence built for him by the famous master builder Johann Dientzenhofer – Schloss Weissenstein near Pommersfelden. It took seven years to build and fit out the interior of the baroque castle with its huge, magnificent staircase, the marble hall and the Sala Terrena, a hall whose elaborate decorations made of tuff and shells make it look like a grotto.
