The history of the house The earliest construction of a manor house is assumed to have been soon after 1342, i.e. after the Haller family acquired the place. The dwelling with a kennel and a moat is mentioned in 1425. In the first Margrave War, Kalchreuth is also said to have been burned down in 1449. The main building was then rebuilt. In 1533, Jobst IV. Haller zu Hallerstein acquired the manor house as sole property. In 1856, the Haller family sold the property to master carpenter Friedrich Woelfel. Dionysius Wölfel sold the castle in 1907 for 152,000 marks to Wilhelm and Katharina Schenk. In 1911, they received permission to run a restaurant. The restaurant was continued to be run by the Scheer family until 2015. The castle stables We have absolutely no precise information about when and by whom the castle stables were built and, in particular, how they acquired their current form. We first learn of its existence in a document from the year 1425 in the following words: "The dwelling, together with the moat and the little garden there, which the lot would have made, and also the stable there, and church rights should be undivided." The church was first documented in 1390 and was mentioned as a place of grace in 1502. The nave was built in 1471, the choir in 1494 and the tower in 1788/1789. During a renovation in 1979, the nave floor was raised. The exterior is characterized by additions to the north, including the baroque church tower, and buttresses are attached to the choir. The Koler Castle with its simple facade, the pretty entrance gate and the gables on the roof is beautiful to look at. It was built in 1749. There was already a manor house here before that.

Parish Church of St. Andreas A real highlight because of its late Gothic works of art. The high altar is attributed to the workshop of Michael Wolgemut, where Albrecht Dürer learned. The tabernacle is probably by Adam Kraft. The completely preserved group of apostles made of clay (14th century) is remarkable. Next to the church is the Haller Castle, where Dürer was a guest several times.

The castle was built in 1534 by the patrician Sebastian Cammerer. In 1815 Johann Kielkalt from Nuremberg bought it and set it up as a restaurant. It is right at the entrance to the town and cannot be missed. https://hallerschloesschen.de/

Atzelsberg Castle boasts beautifully maintained grounds, and there's an inn with a lovely beer garden next door. It's located directly on the hiking trail and has a parking lot, making it a great starting point for hikes.
