Beautiful little chapel on the Staffelberg

Great mountain with wonderful views in all directions. A little caution is required on the precipice. There is also a refreshment stop and a church on the plateau.

The Adelgundiskapelle was destroyed in 1525 during the Peasants' War. Reconstruction only takes place in the middle of the 17th century. This also led to a revival of the pilgrimage to the Staffelber

The Kemitzenstein near Kümmersreuth is a real highlight for those who like rock formations, you can explore them, climb or use the via ferrata. There are plenty of places to sit and relax. Parking is available behind Kümmersreuth at the Kaider rest area.

A Christian chapel was built on the Staffelberg around 800 over the remains of a pagan cult building.

The Staffelberg is one of the geotopes in the district of Lichtenfels. In 2008, the Bavarian State Office for the Environment awarded it the quality seal of Bavaria's most beautiful geotopes during a ceremony.

The Basilica of the Fourteen Saints is a well-known pilgrimage church. The church, built according to plans by Balthasar Neumann, is dedicated to the holy 'Fourteen Holy Helpers', fourteen saints from the second to fourth centuries. The basilica, built between 1743 and 1772 with its 75 meter high towers that can be seen from afar, has a late Baroque facade, but the exuberant interior design corresponds to the Rococo style. In architecture there are only relatively few buildings whose style can be clearly assigned to the Rococo. In the interior design, the structuring elements are dispensed with, instead the boundaries of the individual parts of the room are blurred with the help of decorative ornaments and shell shapes. The rococo altar with the Fourteen Holy Helpers stands freely in the middle of the nave. The light falling indirectly through many windows contributes to the special atmosphere of the room.
