    In order to ensure the continued existence of the facilities, the support group of the Friends of Giechburg e. V. was founded and the first significant renovation work was initiated. When the castle complex was taken over by the district of Bamberg in 1971, the association dissolved and under the care of the district administration, a comprehensive renovation program began and the expansion as a conference venue and cultural event center for the district of Bamberg. In addition, the castle offers a restaurant and accommodation facilities.
    The Franconian Marienweg runs past the castle.

      The castle is located on the western end of a rocky Jurakuppe in Spornlage visible from far above the valley. The third section of the plateau to the east of the ridge marks the location of a bishop's counter-castle of the first half of the 12th century. The castle in its present form goes back to the construction activity of Prince-Bishop Johann Philipp von Gebsattel in the years 1602 to 1609. The two wings in the south and west have now been modernized and are used as a castle restaurant and conference venue of the district administration. The eastern part of the castle was sealed off from the beginning by the high shield wall and the keep.

        From the highway I have seen the castle for many years on top of the mountain. This is a really impressive sight and an "eye-catcher", if the traffic at the notorious Scheßlitzer Berg allows it ...
        Now I've finally taken the time to leave Scheßlitz and drive to the castle. Although the restaurant had just closed day, but the visit in the most beautiful sunshine was worthwhile. The view from up there is gorgeous!
        You should take the time from time to time to take a closer look at the beauties on the left and on the right side of the motorway - even though most of them just rush from A to B! It does not always have to be a big hike ...
