ジョヴァンニ・グアレスキ（1908年から1968年）が考案した主人公「ドン・カミッロ」と「ペッポーネ」について語る、イタリア国外でも広く愛されている、見事に語られた短編小説の一つは、「秋」というタイトルです。彼の物語のほとんどはユーモラスな背景を持っていますが、今回は11月4日を機に戦没者を追悼する国民的追悼という深刻なテーマを扱っています。共産党員の市長ペッポーネは、司祭との激しい議論の中で次のように述べています。 » 「国民はこのすべての戦争と勝利にうんざりしている。国民は戦争が何であるかを非常によく知っており、それを賛美する演説や呼びかけを必要としない。」 ドン・カミッロは首を横に振った。「君は間違った道を進んでいる、ペッポーネ。誰も戦争を賛美したいわけではない。ただ、この戦争で苦しみ、命を落としたすべての人々に敬意と感謝を表したいだけなのだ。」 « (G. The Liberation Beech stands at the highest point of the Alter Foss mountain. According to the stories, it was a strategically important lookout point during the Thirty Years' War.
